About the Charity

What is V-Day? It is an influential, global movement to raise  awareness and end violence against women and girls. Funds are raised through charity performances of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler's award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues”.

The Monologues

Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the  Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," “The Vagina Monologues”,which was first performed off-Broadway by Ms. Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women's experiences.  Ms. Ensler has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world - from Zagreb to Santa Barbara , from London to Seattle , from Jerusalem to Oklahoma City and now in English in Vienna !

vienna theatre project is producing The Vagina Monologues as part of the V-Day Worldwide Campaign 2007. An evening to be remembered including a star studded cast, music for the soul. Proceeds of the performances will go to the The 2007 V-Day Spotlight: Women in Conflict Zones , and chosen charities Frauen Ohne Grenzen and LEFÖ.

Other special V-Day events

Celebration of female artists.

Art Exhibit Details

In the framework of the V-Day worldwide campaign vienna theatre project organizes a group exhibition with women artists, which is intended as a further celebration of womanhood through the language of art. Rather than being guided by a common theme, the exhibition allows for as much diversity as possible, both in artistic subjects and media. The featured artists come from 10 different countries and have all very different backgrounds, ranging from established artists to newly discovered ones. What they have in common is that they are women currently living or seeking asylum in Austria.

Until now 17 artists have confirmed their participation:

Ann Oram (UK), CAROP - Carmen Rocio Péna ( Peru ), Gonca Karapinar (Turkey), Ine Gundersveen, Julia Heller (Austria), Laura Mitchell (USA), Lynne Kieran (London, England), Maria del Carmen Galvan de Reiser (Argentina), M. Alexandra Turgat, Regine Kafeder (Austria), Ruth Brauer-Kvam (Austria/Israel), Sandrine Rohrmoser (Austria), ªengül Arcayürek (Turkey), Smaranda Vedrasco (USA/Moldova), Showkhiin Enkhtumen (Mongolia, asylum seeker), Irina Bitnaya (asylum seeker), Lidia Potapova (Russia, asylum seeker)

The exhibit will also take place on 2-3 March at the Kosmos Theater, Siebensterngasse 42, 1070 Vienna . All works on display will be available for purchase. An information paper with details on each artist and their respective pieces will accompany the exhibition.
